CAST held a wake-a-thon at the theatre on December 16, 2006. The evening went off without a hitch. There were probably about 75 people in attendance. Each and every one of the young people who participated was absolutely fabulous. There was not a single incident - astounding when you consider there were kids from 7 to early 20's (with no sleep to boot).
The guest speaker (Sarita Vandernaalt), who spent time in an AIDS orphanage in sub-saharan Africa, was beautiful and incredibly moving. You could have heard a pin drop during her presentation. When we asked for questions - we were overwhelmed. The question period went on for over an hour.
The committee of young people created a wonderful night - that included a talent show, jam sessions, dance class, crafts and movies. The kids were determined to make it all night and they succeeded - only two small ones caved.
The results are staggering - over $15,000 was raised for the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
